Literature is beautiful…

Herewith is a part of my research study. Particularly, it is one part if my background of the study that defines literature with my modified and added insights. This also shows why we all love literature:

“In this world, there is vastness of ideas. Progress is brought about by it. Modernization lies on it. People may say the outright fact that this world’s continuous progression depends on the borderless ability of man to imagine. The power of man’s imagination fueled the engines of new technology creating trends that consequently pushes one further into the future. Every new concept gives an individual one step ahead. Indeed, man’s ability to think granted him the supremacy to evolve towards his own greater good.

Yet, man’s idea is not solely confined in the onset of modernization brought about by science and technology. It is his love for beauty that inspires him to reach for more. That even in this world of advanced science and edge breaking innovations, people could not isolate their love for the arts. Thus, literature until now, is well-preserved.

Literature in its technical definition is worded as a term used to describe written or spoken material (Lombardi, 2006). A literature could also be defined as a reflection of one’s culture, tradition or society. As Meyers (1997) defined it, “literature is a canon which consists of those works in language by which a community defines itself through the course of its history. It includes works primarily artistic and also those whose aesthetic qualities are only secondary. The self-defining activity of the community is conducted in the light of the works, as its members have come to read them (or concretize them).”

However a literature may be defined, it exerts an intangible bond to human lives. “It greatly influences humanity because it is given a sentimental importance. It is important to people because it speaks to them. Even when life is ugly, literature is beautiful” (Lombardi, 2006). It is true that literature depicts every aspect of human lives even in its worst. Yet the beauty of literature is untainted and ever constant even if it features the most disturbing event of human life. Literature is, was and will always encapsulated beauty as a memoir of human life that has been and will be. The true meaning of literature depends on how a reader sees and views it through different angles.

For years, continuous study and appreciation of literature flourish unceasingly. It is marked by the evolution and at the same time, conservation through studies and education. As a discipline, the study of literature is an excellent way to sharpen one’s close reading skills, assemble excellent critical thinking apparatus, and refine the general sense of art appreciation (Esch, 2002). ”

Finally, I managed to somehow extract some petty minutes off my hectic schedule. What could be busier than watching TV all weeks in the whole Lenten season? Yet as promised, here are some few add ons to your knowledge about content analysis. You could copy and paste this if you’re thinking of doing some research works or a study, perhaps. Literary criticism will be the next article that I will post.

So, good luck to those who are planning to pursue  thier love for literature and understanding its deeper meaning.

An Introduction to Content Analysis

Content analysis is one research tool under the descriptive research used to determine the significance and prominence of certain words or concepts within a written text or sets of texts.

Researchers analyze the prominence, meanings, symbolism and relationships of such words and concepts when used alone in one context or when its meaning is compared to other text. Through this, researcher could then make inferences out of this prominent words or phrases by considering the text alone, its writer, audience to whom the text is purposely written and the universal culture and time.

Texts that could be analyzed using literary criticism are so varied. Some of them could be books, essays, newspaper headlines and articles, historical documents, speeches, theater, informal conversation, or really any occurrence of communication whether published or unpublished. I have even met one content analysis on the school’s mission and vision. Its aim is to measure if the school has indeed attained its set objectives. However, the credibility of the author and the quality of the literature is highly needed.

Content analysis examines words or phrases within a wide range of texts. According to Writer’s Center (1999), by examining the presence or reputation of certain words and phrases in the texts, a researcher is able to make inferences about the philosophical assumptions of a writer, a written piece, the audience for which the piece is written and even the culture and time in which the text is embedded. And due to its wide array of applications, content analysis is used by researcher in literature and rhetoric, as well as in many other fields. Qualitatively, content analysis can involve any kind of analysis where communication content (speech, written text, interviews, images …) is categorized and classified.

Uses of Content Analysis

Content analysis is also useful for examining trends and patterns in documents. For example, Stemler and Bebell (1998) conducted a content analysis of school mission statements to make some inferences about what schools hold as their primary reasons for existence. One of the major research questions was whether the criteria being used to measure program effectiveness (e.g., academic test scores) were aligned with the overall program objectives or reason for existence.

I live, I live! Hurraaaaah!!! Blog!

Finally, after years and years of yearning! I could post my in-depth ramblings and blabbers and some more blahs! Nah, those are usually the things I would like to say or write about without adherence to any grammatical rules or semantic worries. Things that I would rather keep than say. Now, who cares? I live once more in another dimension. Thank goodness to modern blogs!

Anywayzzz, I won’t write just to mumble about myself. I made this blog (nah, my husband actually but damn them males!) with a heroic motive to further give you added references on the topic that might be to your requirement. Hahaha! Enough of those crap.

Hey frendz, I made this site mostly in purpose of a new Literary Criticism page to bloat the Net  but since this is just a shower party stage, cheers and watch out for more! I have deep respect for those people who had unselfishly helped me in my thesis and now it is my turn to bear the torch for a good cause.

Toast with me! This is page is for everyone who loves literature! And other related ramblings!
